Story: “Elder Kikuchi’s Missionary Experience”
This is a wonderful fully illustrated true story about Elder Kikuchi’s missionary experience when he was a young missionary. He had a very hard time learning the English language and he was having a hard mission. But in this story, he learns that God will help us through hard times and that it will be for our good and make us better people. He grew up to be a General Authority!
Activity Page Handout: “Liberty Jail Jumble”
Joseph experienced many hard times while being in the Liberty Jail. Harsh language was one of them. This handout reminds us of the hurt hard language can be for others and how kind language lifts the soul.
Memorization Game: “Hard Things Build Kings!”
This is a great game that will teach the children the statement in D&C 122:7 concerning how experiencing hard things will be for our good. Divide the group into two teams. Teams take turns picking a puzzle strip one at a time and then repeat the partial scripture together. Random point amounts are revealed on the back side of each strip. Continue to take turns removing strips, gathering points, and repeating the scripture. Once all the puzzle strips have been removed, the children will repeat their final memorized statement and determine which team received the most points. It’s a great way to learn and enjoy competing for fun!
Jesus Christ knows how I feel.
Song: “Jesus Once Was a Little Child”
Children need to know that Jesus was once a child just like them and he had feelings just like they do! This favorite Primary song truly teaches them that Jesus knows them, and we should try hard to be like him in every way.
Game: “Find Our Feelings” (for younger children)
This is a great game to help children recognize that they have many different feelings. It is a simple game where children “Fish for Feelings” and when they find one, they place it on their “Find Our Feelings” board. The first player to find their four different feelings is the winner. The page can also be reproduced as a coloring page, or a fun sewing card to color and take home. We all have different feelings and Heavenly Father wants us to learn how to recognize them and control them so that we can be happy!
God wants me to cheerfully do all that I can.
Song: “When We’re Helping”
What a great way to learn that helping others will make us happy! This delightful Primary song teaches just that!
*This Come Follow Me bundle includes black and white versions of the songs for optional coloring pages.
