The Building Our Armor of God activity can be used in a lesson to teach how the Armor of God will help protect us from evil. It gives children a chance to discuss good things that "build our armor" and bad things that "take down our armor".

How to Make

Reproduce the three pages that create a young warrior onto heavier cardstock. Color, cut out and line up together. Tape together along the back side of the created poster. Laminate poster for durability. Reproduce the individual armor visuals onto heavier cardstock. Color, cut out and laminate pieces. Use sticky-back velcro to hold armor pieces to the created poster of the young warrior. Reproduce a second set of these armor visuals onto heavier cardstock to use in your lesson when introducing what each piece of armor represents. There has also been provided the six squares that describe what each armor piece represents. Reproduce the squares onto heavier cardstock as well. Color, cut out and laminate the individual armor pieces and the cards. Use magnetic strip pieces on the back side of each armor piece and squares for when teaching about this portion of your lesson. Reproduce the small cards with good things that “build upon our armor” and bad things that “take down our armor” onto heavier cardstock. Color, cut out and laminate cards for durability. Reproduce the “Building Our Armor of God!” visual onto heavier cardstock. Color, cut out, laminate and tape to the front of a paper bag.

How to Use

This activity is great for when teaching about the “Armor of God” and what each individual piece of armor represents. Start your activity by placing your second set of armor pieces on the board along with the six individual squares lined up along your chalk rail, have the children try matching the squares to the piece of armor it represents. Once they have placed their squares, have them look up Ephesians 6:14-17, read it, and then decide if all their matches were correct. After all have been matched up correctly, ask the following questions: 1) how can each piece of armor help protect us from wickedness? 2) how do we put on this armor? 3) what can we do to identify and strengthen any weaknesses in our armor? Now it’s time for our game… place the poster of your young warrior on the board. Place the first set of armor pieces along the chalk rail. The object of this activity is to be able to put all the armor pieces in place before your lesson time is over. This is done by having the children take turns picking a small card from your paper bag and if it is a“good” thing that builds upon your armor, they can choose an armor piece from the chalk rail and place it on the warrior. Discuss why this item they chose was helpful in building your armor of god. If they choose something “bad”, then you discuss how this takes down your armor… and no piece is put up on the poster. Keep taking turns until they are able to “put on the armor of god!” It will be a fun and great learning activity!
